In order to help working parents have access to quality child care that fits their working schedules and needs, Choice4Care® created the Close to HomeTM network of family child care providers. The idea behind the program is to allow employers to cost-effectively provide their employees with access to a wide network of high quality, convenient, registered family child care homes and raise the level of quality care provided throughout these homes. A sponsoring employer's funds allow Choice4Care to recruit and train home care providers in the location of the organization, and the surrounding geographic area, that accommodates non-traditional work schedules with extended hours, as well as before and after school care, plus additional infant/toddler care slots to meet the needs of working parents. Caregivers are carefully screened and given many opportunities for specialized training. Additionally, providers are supported through resource libraries, experienced program mentors, and frequent home visits.
Close to Home is a family child care business initiative, originally created over a decade ago in Arizona, designed to meet employee needs for affordable, quality, family home child care. Close to Home is highly successful and recognized by the U.S. Department of Labor as a "model program for resolving multiple child care issues." Close to Home's founding sponsorship was created by employers participating in the American Business Collaboration for Quality Dependent Care.
Close to Home can be offered with the support of a group of employers or as an individual company response, and can be easily expanded to various locations.
